Stripping sealing and waxing are still the preferred cleaning processes for supper markets like publix. Wax is commonly used on terrazzo and ensures the floor remains high lustre with the required slip coefficient resistance. A terrazzo floor needs to be sealed to prevent stains but wax is not the proper sealer to use on this type of flooring. When terrazzo floors are installed they are coated with polyurethane to seal the floor but are also covered with special wax. Wipe away excess sealer and allow the floor to dry overnight before proceeding. Using any other cleaners can damage the floor. Additional chips may be sprinkled atop the mix before it sets. Apply a terrazzo or marble sealer to your floor.

Sometimes this is all you need to do to them. Mix 1 gallon of warm water 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of cream of tartar in a bucket. However its removal and reapplication can reduce the life of a terrazzo floor. This wax helps to prevent the floors from getting dirty but regular use can cause the wax to become scuffed and dingy.

T he classic mid century modern terrazzo we find in our homes is a mixture of marble chips bonded with portland cement. Metal strips often divide sections or changes in color or material in a pattern. After it is cured it is ground and polished smooth or otherwise finished to produce a unifor. Terrazzo is a composite material poured in place or precast which is used for floor and wall treatments.

Use water mixed with terrazzo floor cleaner. Dip a mop into the solution and apply it to the floor. It is a big job and the costs could be anywhere from 2 to 10 per foot or more depending on the damage to your floors and the method used to restore them. After the floors have been cleaned and dried thoroughly a penetrating sealer is applied to the newly polished terrazzo floor to help prevent staining.

You can use the special sealant yourself or have the company that installs the flooring do it. Allow it to sit for a few minutes until the wax. Wax strippers tend to have either a high alkaline or acid base. In the past wax and acrylic finish were used as a sealer and gloss.
